Life goes by really really fast. You can do the things that you are told to do and randomly float through a pre-planned and unfulfilled life or, you can make the decision to actually live.
This takes a lot of effort at first. It's not easy to say "NO" to the current life that you are living in.
Sometimes I like to think of myself as the evil friend and/or coach that is constantly egging people on to do the things that they "shoudn't do". Things like taking a day off of work, saying no to a coffee date they didn't want to go to or even skipping something that has been scheduled on the expensive retreat they are currently on (I'm working at a yoga retreat in Mexico).
Why do I do this?
I do this because we need to take back our time. We need to find out what we each want individually before we can do what is best for others collectively. We need to have days off once in a while. We need to cut ourselves some slack with engagements and we need to feel okay sitting around and doing nothing every once in a while (daily would be great).
Luckily, the thought of "less is more" and "live life slowly" is starting to gain some ground. Schools are starting to change how long students are in session. Businesses are giving their employees more time off and their is a new motion to get back into nature.
So really, I am not an evil friend/coach at all. I should reall think of myself as an angel. An angel that is trying to get everyone else to take a little bit more control of their lives and say "NO" to things that they don't want to do or don't seem right.
Once you say "NO" more often, your schedule miraculously frees up and you have more time to spend on yourself, on your passions and with the people you love.
This week, I would love it if everyone said "No" to at least one thing that you didn't want to do.... and then go do something you actually want to do... like doing nothing.
